J----—O —A Detective Outwitted-San- Francisco, May 12.—Augustus C. Hagen, the ex-cashier, who in May, 1892, robbed the American Exchange bank, of New York, of over $8,000, and absconded to Sydney, Australia, took, passage for this port on the steamer Alameda, which arrived Thursday. A deteetive followed Kim on board, but | at Honolulu the absconder walked ashore and immediately took passage on a vessel sailing for Samoa, leaving the deteetive to jpursue his voyage to San Francisco, much crestfallen at the of his man.
