SOME ARTISTS OF COYINGTONWHO HAVE ACHIEVED RECOGNITION FOR CLEVER WORK.GLIMPSES OF STUDIOS OYER THE RIYERThe Kentucky City Has Given SeveralGreat Names to the World ofBrash and Canvas.3ART from those ladies who form themembership of theCovington Art Club, there are not many ladies or gentlemen in Covington who take any deep interest in art or make any pretensions as amateur painters. There areabout thirty members in the club, and what is best in the art of thecity is represented at their annual exhibitions, which occur each winter.Still there ace several who find pleasure for themselves in delineating the beauties of nature, and in the following sketches it is the purpose to mention a few of the more prominent of these, together with some of the club members who have achieved an especial excellencein their respective departments of art.MISS DIXIE SELDEN.Miss Dixie Selden is one of Covington’ most popular young society ladies, who de votes all her spare time to the cultivatio of art. She paints exclusively in oil an gives her attention to portraits and flgur studies. She resides with her parents, Mi and Mrs. John Selden, at 35 West Four! street. When “The Tribune” reporter calle-there a few days ago he had the privileg of seeing Miss Selden in her studio. Th room is altogethe. in keeping with th culture and refinement of the accomplishe young tenant. It is essentially a workroom although the presence of a divan and sev eral chairs give evidence that Miss Seldei enjoys the company of her friends in he sanctum. The walls are covered with man illustrations of her skill and versatility witi the brush, and one, if he has an eye fo such things, can trace among them Mis Selden*s progress from the stiff outlines o the earliest attempts to the clear, gracefu and natural lines of the adept. Among he own paintings there are several of whic] Miss Selden is proud as the gifts of artis friends. One* of these is a splendid sketcl of the features of a well-known Covingto Judge, done in oil by Duveneck, whos name and work are not unknown in th art world here and in Europe.HER PRESENT WORK.Just now Miss Selden is busy on the figure of a lady which she will exhibit next week at the Woman’s Art Club of Cincinnati, of which she is Secretary. For the same exhibition, also, she has completed a negro study. Miss Selden is a member of the Covington Art Club, and each year has a number of pictures at its exhibition which attract a good deal of attention. She is also a member of the Culture Club, and regularly contributes papers on various subjects.
