On that day a warrant was sworn , out for the arrest of Judgo Chisolm, Gilmer, C. Rosenbaum (a friend of Gilmer,) the Do Kalb postmaster, but living in Scooba, and two brothers named Hopper, one a merchant and the other asaloon keeper in J)e Kalb. All these men were Republicans. There soems to have been a plot to get them together and murder them all. The sheriff arrested the two Hoppers and Chisolm and placed them all under guard in Chisolm’s house, and dispatched a deputy to Scooba for Gilmer and Rosenbaum, but they hud heard of the warrant and were met coming to town to• givo themselves up. IAbout 10 o’clock that morning (Sunday) armed rnen began to ride into Lie Kalb. First small detach ments came, and afterwards a large body, numbering about 100.
