S. One of his favorite subjects in school is English. He receives encouragement in entering contests from his teacher, Mrs. George Hill. His salesmanship essaytook a month’s preparation.Won Other AwardsRecent awards won by the boy include first place in the country and second in the state in the American Medical Assn. essay contest on medical care; second place locally in the Veterans of Foreign Wars essay contest on citizenship and first place in the freshman division in the ready writing contest at Austin.He will receive the $100 award from the El Paso Sales ExecutiveClub. His prize winning paper will also be entered in the national contest where he will compete for the $1000 award.David, who resides at 3231 Jefferson street, will be a guest along with his parents at the Friday dinner meeting of the Sales Executives Club at the Paso del Norte Hotel. Second Place WinnerJudges for the contest: J. C. Holcomb. Donald Wedge, Louis W. Capone and Afton Verner.Thelma White, a senior at Douglas High, was named as second place winner. She will receive $50. Jack Connors of El Paso Tech was third place winner. He will receive $25.Other winners, all of whom will receive $10 awards, are Betty Gray of El Paso High, Joan Stewart of Tech, Joe Basham of El Paso High, Clarence Stevens of Douglas.
