TERSE TALES.Many of the friends of the University were there in drags.The directors of the University should feel proud of having such a fine array of athletes as were seen yesterday afternoon connected with that institution.Considering the lack of practice all the boys ■did well.The class banners showed up in great style.Boys from Woodward, Hughes and Franklin made themselves noticed by their yells.C. McLeod Smith, the champion all-round athlete of the '‘Varsity,” was unable to talce part in the contests yesterday owing to the injury he received last Saturday at College Hill games. Had he been able to be about the results would have been much different.The hurdle races urere omitted, owing to the absence of several of the boys entered to start.Ralph Holterhoff can be rated as a first-elass sprinter. The other boys were badly handicapped. He is undoubtedly the fastest man, at any distance, the University has had for many years. His gait is regular and strides long. In fact, he possesses all the points of a professionalOf all the boys who ran. jumped and rode yes terday afternoon, Holterhoff ruled favorite.Weber’s Band was on hand to entertain the audience.Woodward have fixed their field day on May 31. The Cincinnati Gymnasium will hold theirs June 9.
