Four Men Receive Sentences in Penitentiary.ONE MAN RECEIVES YEAR JCutrone Is Said to Have Been Italian WIio Struck Patrolman Manheim—Five Others . Will Be Tried To-morrow.Four of the nine Italians arrested in connection with last -week's strike riots were given straight jail sentences by Judge Ryan in Police court this morning- Each of the four pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges.Giovanni CtUrone paid the severest penalty. He was sentenced to one year in the penitentiary. Cuirone was identified as having hit Patrolman Jacob Manheim on- the head with a brick as the officer lay unconscious in East Onondaga street the day of the ' riot. Only a moment before Manheim had been felled by another stone.Cutrorie had first bean charged with assault in the second degree, a. felony.. According- to the law any- assault upon an officer who is in the performance of his duty' is a second degree assault. In order to,sceure quick and sure'-justice, however. Chief Cadin and Assistant {District Attorney Mosher consented r! that the charge against Cutrone be re-sjauced to assault in the third degree i [ and Cutrane pleaded guilty. Judge, t j Ryan imposed the’maximum jail sen-‘ tenee.■ The three cither Italians sentenced were Oirrneio Rnsrinese. Xichola Ladltoand Gaetano Germ a no. Each pleaded, guilty to a charge of - unlawfully assembling In. a public place. Ladlto and Germane* were arrested at the time j of last week’s riots. They were active . in the assault upon the police, Reginese was arrested last Saturday on a description furbished by officers who identified him as a leader in the riots.Resincse and Gcrmano were each sentenced to six months in the penitentiary. LadSto. it was said, had been more active in attacking the officers than the other two men. Detective . James Jveeffo testified to having j .wrested a pickaxe handle from Ladito's hands only to see the Italian arm himself with another similar weapon and continue lighting. Ladito received a nine months* sentence.Try Others To-morrow.-Tiic remaining five alleged rioters will lie given trial to-morrow. Each is charged with unlawful assembly. They are: Joseph Coco. Joseph X-yoHtano. Vito Carbaccio, Calegro r Mario and Antonio Ciccarone. With the consent of Assistant District Attorney Mosher ail bat Coco were paroled 3o appear in court for trial tomorrow. Coco, whose case is considered more serious than the rest by the authorities, is being held in default of 5500 ball.
