V VETERANHo Becomes Totally Blind En Routeto Des Moines, Iowa.Nelson Kathan, an aged veteranunion soldier, of Dadesville, Dadecounty, arrived in the city Fridayevening, almost penniless and in apitiful condition. He had beenblind in one eye and while on thetrain between Clinton and thiseye was blinded bya redhot cinder.Upon arriving here he informedGeorge R. Smith post G. A. R. ofhis condition and they took charge^ Oof the veteran.
