Railroad Anldmt —Death.Last evening, about eight o’clock, as a “crab locomotive was running between Bedford and Newburgh, on the Cleveland and Pittsburgh Railroad, it struck a plank which had been placed with one end under a cross tie, and the other end projecting upward across a second tie.—The plank parsed Hit ugh a part of the engine, striking Mr. Joseph \l. Westland, the Engineer, and throwing hitu acrosslhe traik, where the wheel-, of the locomotive pas-cd over him, J le was dreadfully mangled and died immediately, j Besides the Engineer and Fireman, three ladies of Bedford township, and the husband of one of them were on the Locomotive. One of the ladies, Miss Kenton,aged seventeen, was thrownof!, her dress caught among the cog-wheels, and literally torn off among them. The action «»| a lever among them pushed her off and saved her l lile. Hhe is, however, dangerously injured, being severely cut about the foreheau. This occurred near the spot where the plank was fixed for the train on the 92d of February.The excitement in the neighborhood is intense, for Mr. Westland was a lavorite all along the line. ,Nlt;* punishment can be too severe or speedy for the wretch w ho has thus caused the death ofan unoffending person. 1We learn that a man named Horace Brooks, suspected of the crime, has surrender'd himsell to the Cleveland authorities l\r examination.— Clerdand Herald.
