Alleged plotwas driven by romanceBy Alan Wallace Staff WriterShe did it for love, according to police.Mabscott Chief Charlie Thomson said Sunday that an alleged plot by two women from the Kaleigh County town aimed at abducting a North Carolina minister was motivated by one of the women’s romantic feelings toward him.“They thought they’d get him to come up here and he’d fall in love with her and marry her,’ Thomson said.He called Mary Lou Godbey, 41, the instigator of the plot and identified her as the woman who was seeking the minister’s affections.Goaoey and Paula Carol McGuire, 20, were charged with forgery of a state document and conspiracy to commit abductionGodbey was arrested at her home around 6:15 p m. Friday and jailed under $15,000 bondMcGuire turned herself in, waived to the grand jury and was released after posting $5,000 bond.The two allegedly tried to abduct Kev. Quinton Mills of Hendersonville. N.C., in April.Mills makes frequent appearances at revivals in the Mabscott area, Thomson said, and Godbey attended many of the services.The conspiracy allegedly started last November.(Please see Romance on 12A)
