IThat is the burning question at' La-]orte.Since the death of “Old Nigger Liz,’* who was supposed to have some knowledge of the Gunness murder farm, the Impression has gained headway that light may be thrown on the great mystery.9In the midst of the piles of rags, old papers and debris of every description that litters the tumble down old house on Railroad street in Laporte where Mrs. Elizabeth Smith (Nigger Liz) once lived, there came to light late yesterday afternoon a human skull, strange relic of a strange andmysterious character whose checkered career came to an end the 17th of last March. On an old cot on ane of the two front rooms and between two mattresses the skull was found, dried and i polished and* across the top of the skull1 written in lead pencil, the words “Phil Bongarz,” evidently intended for Philip Bongerz, former marshal and the only man “Nigger Liz” ever feared.
