Lawyer Percy Foreman iSues to Collect FeesHOUSTON (AP» — Houston lawyer Percy Foreman says he was to have received $250,000 for defending Melvin 1-ane Powers on a murder charge even if Powers had been convicted and assessed the death penalty.Foreman testified.Wednesday in district court in a legal battle over what fee Foreman is due for his legal services on behalf of Candace Mossier Garrison and Powers.The former Mrs. Mossier, who married electrical contractor Barnett Garrison in 1971, and Powers, her nephew, were charged with the June 30. 1904 stabbing death of her millionaire husband, Jacques Mossier.They were acquitted March 6, 1966 after a nine-week trial in Miami.The court testimony here is the outgrowth of a petition filed in 1967 on behalf of Mrs. Garrison and Powers that alleged Foreman agreed on a fee of $200,000.Clyde Moody and Marian Hosen of Houston defended Mrs. Garrison during the Florida trial but Foreman testified that 1 was working for her. her children and Melvin l,ane Powers from the time Powerswas arrested.It was known at the time if Melvin Lane Powers wasAllen Board Okays NSSR Survey, StudyThe board of trustees at Aller Military Academy ha! authorized National Researcl sorvey Services, headquartered in Dallas, to direct a research project and opinion study.NRSS. a research organization with wide experience in the educational field, will mail questionnaires to diversified constituencies in a broad geographical area in which the academy has influence. Personal and telephone interviews also will be utilized.The project is being designed to provide the administrative staff and board of trustees with a thorough study in all factors related to the future of the academy, to point out directions in expansion and improvement of its programs and facilities.The survey, in the form of an official report, will be completed no later than June 20. A representative of the company will make a presentation to the board at their next meetingqcquitted, nothing could happen to her, Foreman said.He said he was first brought into the case when he received a telephone call from Mrs. Garrison informing him that Powers had been arrested.Mrs. Mossier said nothing to the effect that the whole world or walls’ are falling in on us, Foreman said.
