Spears is a bright lad. who has had two \enrs* instruction in thlt; Ottumwa high school and also four months’ training in a business eollege. lie lias taken tip stenography and typewriting.Spears worked for the Morrel pnck-ing company in Ottumwa until April IS, when work became slack and lie was laid off. lie had been employed as timekeeper at the plant. LrHer he went to work in a hotel in Ottumwa, whore he met Fletcher. Fletcher planned the career of burglary for the *wo. They went to Davenport.At the library in that city they looked in Rock Island papers and secured the address on Twentieth street of a doctor who had left town for a few days. They planned to burglarize his house, but made a mistake in the address and entered tin* residence occupied by Mrs. Berthn l. Hoffman, Miss Anna E. Hailey and Miss Marie A. Koch.They found it difficult to dispose of the jewelry after tl.ov had secured it. They kept away from pawnshops ns much ns possible. What they did sell was disposed of to individual ..
