Man accused in ’03 killings found competent for trialComfort: Seardbelieved he was ‘evilest’ psychologist saysBy Caleb ChapmanTimes Assistant Managing EditorThe man accused of killing two Comfort residents has again been found by Vernon State Hospital officialsfit to stand trial, District Attorney Bruce Curry said.Vincent Seard Jr. is charged with capital murder for the 2003 deaths of Patricia Kutzer, 59, and Tbrry Ingram, 52.This isn’t the first time that Seard has been found competent.In 2006, after state hospital officials indicated that Seard was ready to face the charges, 216th District Judge Steve Abies ruled that he wasn’t competent to stand trial.Several psychiatrists testified in that hearing that he could not help in his attorneys defense.One psychiatrist, Dr. Richard Coons, said that Seard believed there was a presence in his life that made him “the evilest in existence. ” Coons also stated that he believed Seard could not be found competent to stand trial unless his mental illness is treated with medication.TheAccusedTheVictimsSee THal, page 12A
