Ever since Scrappy Watgon has been big enough to stay out o’ nights, he has never rested easily unless he got a jail sentence fortnightly, on a minor charge. At first the officers were lenient and assessed nominal fines. Lately he has been given the limit, and yet he longed for more trouble and it looks now like he had it in sight. Several days ago Harry Buck and Lonzo the “Scrapper” filled their tanks with a beverage that got the better of their heads and feet. They went into a convenient hay mow and went to sleep. When Buck came, to he missed “Scrappy” and then he missed his new 18 dollar watch. He told his troubles to the Marshal and that official put two and two together and on Saturday told the “Scrapper” that he knew who had stolen the watch and unless it was given up some one would be arrested in side of an hour. Watson looked up the young Buck and taking him to a pile of baled hay rolled over a bale and produced the watch. Buck then swore out a warrant charging Watson with being too closely connected with the disappearance of the watch and on Monday the Sheriff invited Watson to come down and board with him until the court disposed of the case. This was a pretty clever piece of detective work by Marshal DeHaven.
