Last week Thomas Bowser was moved to this city from Continental by John Bird, Sr., and John Bird, Jr.Bowser it is said made no special effort to get a house and so the party went into camp over in East Defiance. John Bird, Sr., celebrated his visit to this city by getting gloriously drunk and was locked up. His son John came to get him out, but the old man was so abusive that he left him. John Bird Jr., and Mr. Bowser then started in to float their souls. Complaint was made to the Mayor and at a late hour Saturday night one of the teams at the Central fire station was pressed into service and the men from Continental were landed in the Shanty de Shea. John Bird, Jr., was fined §5 and at once shook the dust of the city from his feet. The old man was fined $5 and cost and hung up at the stone yard until his ship came in. Bowser, after he had sober-and being out of funds was discharged after receiving a good lecture, and was instructed to go and take careof his family. The Mayor provideda place for Mrs. Bowser during the time her husband was locked up. When Bowser got to looking for a house he soon found one. Ho ought to have been spanked with a pump stock for keeping his family out on the commons two or three days as he did do.
