wains of the history of a past race.Two very interesting groups of mounds aiul effigies intermixed, may bo found on Judge Gale's farm about one hundred rods west of his residence. The mounds are very uniform in size and appearance;being from 30 to 40 feet in diameter, and from 3 to 4 feet high. In their plan they are circular, in elevation, doree-likc.Tn one of these groups there are four effigies, three of animals, and one of the human form. Those of animals arc about lt;30 feet long and lie upon the side; they are almost exactly alike in size'and form, and all lie with their heads to the East, they are raised about 11-2 to 2 feet higher than the onrtli about them, and notwithstanding Times effacing fingers,” are still too well defined to admit of a doubt in the most incredulous,of human a-genoy in their construction.
