The stains ■gave rise again to the belief thut one of the Dillinger gang had been badly hurt at one time or another after their flight from the reaort near where a federal agent and a civilian were shot to death.Stolen in St. Paul.The car was stolen from Roy Francis of South St. Paul, Minn., on April 23—the day after the battle of Little Bohemia, after three men riding In a coupe and believed to lie Dillinger gangsters were sighted by deputy sheriffs at Hastings, Minn. A running gun fight between Hastings and St. Paul park ensued, but the trio eacaited, abandoning the the coupe near Invergrove. S. Highway No. (Jl from the vicinity of South St. Paul to Dubuque, where the fugitives turned east toward Chicago, stopping long enough to steal the license plates from the car of Dr. K. K. Shelly at Freeport, sometime between 7 and 8 o'clock the night of April 23.At this time the hunt for Dillinger and his mob centered in the northern Wisconsin woods and In tiie St. Paul area. The 324 miles traveled from South St. Paul to Freeport. I and the time element indicated the gangsters must have driven at breakneck speed, atithorlites said.In the course of the Chicago hunt, a detective squad took Henry Johnson, negro, into custody and charged him with hiding I7.00U for Herbert Youngblood, the Gary negro who broke out of the Crown Point, Ind., Jail with Dillinger and was killed a few days later by Michigan police.The money, said Sergt. James Fitzgerald, was lost from a bank robbery in which Youngblood aided. Johnson denied he knew Youngblood.
