MellencampFined $500In Appeal CaseMidshipman James t. Mellencamp was found guilty of reckless driving today and fined $300 after trial in Aane Arundel County circuit court. He was acquitted of a manslaughter charge in connection with automobile accident death bf Elizabeth Hagood.Chief Judge James Boylan and Associate Judge James Clark of the Fifth Judicial district, heard the appeal taken from the decision of Trial Magistrate James G.Wnrtrluia« * WM ft MO.Mellencamp, 20-yeat*-old third classman at the Naval Academy, was convicted by Magistrate Woodward of a manslaughter charge that developed from an automobile accident in September. Elizabeth Hfcgood, 16, was killed,1 and sister, Ruby Hagood, 20, in-{jured In the accident at the in-I tersection of the St. Margaret’sj and old Annapolis - Baltimore roads. Another midshipman, John Killeen, of New London, Conn., was slightly injured.James C. Morton and John C. Rouse, Jr.. were the attorneys for Mellencamp., while State’s Attorney Marvin I. Anderson represented the State.Archie Dull, who got to the automobile accident, testified thfA he found a “dark haired mid; shipman” under the wheel. Mellencamp is a blonde,Sgt.
