Dr. Brown estimted that Texas lost more than $500,000 through malaria j deaths last year. He urged elimination of mosquito breeding places' and proper screening of homes to ; prevent the disease.Maralia is caused by the bite of a certain kind of mosquito, which has►been infected by biting a per son whohas the germs of malaria in his eys-I tern. Symptoms are chills and fever, and headache. Persons may have mild cases without knowing it, the only symptoms being fatigue and a feeling of dullness. j[ Persons who have had malaria j should take a complete course of ; treatment under the care of a phy-I sician until examination of the blood ! shows the system is free from the ’ j germs. Dr. Brown said. ‘ Incomplete j , treatment leaves one harboring the ! infection, though he may be free from symptoms. As long as the i germs remain in the blood, the individual is a.menace fcd others, and; may at any time become ill with a fresh attack of acute malaria.”!
