TONIC CO’s. ACCOUNT FOR GOLDFISHRecorded Beethoven symphonies, die Seniiramade Overture, and an aquarium of goldfish were ordered by Ihe Vollax Tonic and Laxative Company.This was disclosed by unpaid accounts of the firm produced in i evidence at Central Police Court yesterday.Robert Cecil Marlborough, 23, company manager. Ma jor Street. Mosman, pleaded ! not; guilty to two charges of false pretences.The police prasecutor 'Sergeant Stafford t said that 1ft charges of stealing were pending against MarlboroughDetective C. G. Godwin, of the said that on February 28 he saw Marlborough at the office of Vollax Tonic and Laxative Co. Pty.. Ltd. (formerly Vollax Tonic and Laxative Company).“looked Good”According to Godwin. Marlborough said that the firm's share register was hi his solicitor's office.On the way to get the register. Marl- I borough said, It's no use going—I confess I haven’t got one.” iGodwin said that, back at the office. Marlborough showed him a share certificate book.Numbers 20 ro 2ft were missing.I started of! there because T thought it looked good. Rogers £155. and a third man £5No Dividends”The charges alleged that Marlborough had obtained the money from these men by falsely prerending that the Vollaxcompany had operated for years, and had paid dividends.Godwin said that there were 50 olher Shares that Marlborough had owned which had been hantted over to a creditor for a loan.Marlborough admitted ;hat the Vollax company was only formed in November, and had paid no dividends.He was the only director.He said he had represented to Rogers that the company had only current debts.Bundle Of BillsWhen Godwin .showed him a bundle of bills. Marlborough .said. Well. I could hardly tell him about that.Godwin round a debenture for £200 to a Mrs. Alhstee. which gave her full control over the company, as its assets were about 1200 only.Marlborough said Yes.
