f ■. . tThree Men Arrested For Grand Larceny, Arson In Hardin Co.SpcJaiWeda}LaiolfiSpcrefeasKENTON — Hardin County Sheriff James Baldridge revealed Monday that three men! have beets arrested and each charged with grand larceny and arson in connectiojy with several incidents that occurred in Hardin County within the iast three months.The three men arrested are: Richard Gregory Smiths 22, of Waynesfield: Jarhes Daniel Allen, 18. of. 603 W. North St., Lima, and James Daniel Huber, 18, of 519 N Baxter St., Lima These three men are being held in jails on charges of grand larceny and arson filed by. HardinCounty Sheriff Baldridge.Within the last three or four months two homes were destroyed by fire and a lumber yard at Roundhead was set on fire. A'series of breakings and enterings including one at the Belle Center Community hardware and the Waynesfield hanh ware also occurred. Also schools in and around Hardin, County have been broken' into and damage done.Through the combined investigation efforts of officers' in Hardin and Auglaize County Sheriff’s Departments, the Lima Police Department and Herman Hostetler of BellefoEtaine, state arson investigator, the three men aired two juveniles were arrested in connection, with the various incidents.In all, five persons have been taken into custody. They range in age from 16 years to 22, consisting of four males and one female. She is 16 and is the one who led Lima Police detectives to evidence which implicated her companions in burglaries and fires which destroyed houses in the Belle Center area. The five arrested also included a 16-year old boy. The officers have declined to identify either the boy or the girl, due to their ages.The case was cracked after long and’ hard work by the Hardin County Sheriff’s Department, the Auglaize Sheriff’s Department and arson investigator Hostetler.It first came to light as a 16 year-old girl failed to attend school for 42 straight days. Hostetler said a Lima Police detective traced her to an apartment in that city where, she had been livings with the three men, Smith, Allen and Huber. While at the apartment the detective spotted an article which had been reported stolen from one a S of the destroyed Belle Center-Roundhead area residences. After further investigation the detective learned that the apartment had been almost completely furnished with stolen articles from various places.The three men will appear in the Kenton municipal court on the charges, Monday morning James Allen of Lima appeared in court on a charge of grand larceny. He appeared with counsel and entered a plea of not guilty to the charge. Bond was set at $1,000. Also he entered a plea of not guilty to an arson charge filed' by Hardin County Sheriff Baldridge.
