I.shot at the white man and I saw a stream of blond trickle down his shirt front,he stumbled and fell, but regainedhis feel and ran into a thicket.“After the smoke of battle had cleared away, we found Tittle and 'Perry at the home of Lewis Rudds, a crippled Cherokee Indian. Terry was suffering from a bullet wound which had pierced his body.“We dispatched Rudds to Spavi-mwv toy assistance and lie returned with Dr. Hollingsworth. Terry will recover and in the meantime he is being cared for at the home of thefriendly fmlian.“When the bullets commenced to ring Dick 'Perry ran and was shot in tin* back. Tittle followed Terry and left llohlcrman, Apdy Dick.Than Woffard and myself. We started, to crawl away tip to the head of the hollow of death. Two holes were in the meantime slmt in 1113' coat, but we still continued up the hollow until we reached an advantageous point to make a stand, but the gang did notfollow us.“After HiKtrap was killed the gang returned ami stole his watch, about $30 in money, his six shooter, licit .and cartridges and shot into his body several times.”The outlaws have escaped and no word lias been heard of them up to date.Deputies A. J. Long and Charles Wheat came in from Spavinaw hills to Vinita with four prisoners, Jim and Louis WicklifTe, uncles of the outlaws; Peter Wolfe and Rain Crolv, all fulblond Cherokecs, charged with harboring the WicklifTe brothers. All deny any knowledgeof the whereabouts of the outlaws and were placed in the federal jail here. They offered 110 resistance to arrest.Among the’ prisoners brought in Wednesday by Marshal Darrough was Rev. John Reamer, fullblood ChcTokee Indian. Darrough says at present preachers are a source of great worry.It is alleged that Reamer, together with other fullblood preachers, has been appearing at Indian dances, advising fnllbloods in impassioned language to hold out against the enforcement of government allotment laws and to resist all effort of th r marshal and his posse to inter-nied-dle with the old laws of the ‘Cherokee s.Seven fnllbloods have been arrested' upon the charge of harboring and abetting the Wycliffes. ■One of the captured Indians maintained a signal station in the topmost branches of a pine tree, from , which advantageous position lie could, by means of a system, of flags, communicate..with. the Wycliffes at a distance of four miles whether or .not officers were lurking in the vicinity..' .^Marshal Darrough now has several 'picked, companies in tne field, each in command experienced Indian fightr er3, and the ground is being thoroughly k searched. Outposts are also placed to prevent the escape of the outlaws.
