Reed murder trial under way in LRLITTLE ROCK (AP) -Opening arguments and testimony were to begin today in the capital murder trial of Alonzo Clay “A.C.” Reed. 29, of Littie Rock, who is charged in a 1974 double murder in Little Rock.The jury that will hear the case was empaneled Tuesday night after a two-day selection process. The jury is composed of seven women and five men Two alternates — a man and a woman — also were seated.Reed is charged in the shooting deaths of Carmen Sue Margrave. 18, and Ernest Dene Lanny” Landrum, 21, both of Pine Bluff Their bodies were found Feb 12, 1974, in the trunk of an abandoned car in Little Rock's Reservoir Park.Prospective jurors were questioned one at a time Tuesday in the chambers of Circuit Judge Lowber C. Hendricks Jr. Each person was questioned for about 30 minutes by defense attorneys, prosecutors and HendricksChief defense attorney R Wayne Lee used psychologist John Delk of Little Rock to help question jurors Monday and Tuesday Lee and Reed consulted with Delk beforedeciding whether to excuse each juror.Several persons were excused from the panel by Hendricks because they objected to capital punishment. Others were excused because they knew the victims or some of the 50 witnesses who have been subpoenaed to testify in the trial.Security in the courtroom continued to be tight.
