Carter is on trinl will assemble this morning at 10:30 o'clock In the Uni led States Court room In the custom house. Judge Emory Speer, having finished nls term of court there, the court room was again tendered the court martlaL and accepted. *The reassembling of the court martial there means that there will be some difference In the audiences. In the banquet hall of the De rioto some thirty or forty ladies assembled almost every day, but they are more backward about attending the sessions of the court within a court room. Seats are provided for them in th.9 court room, but never have there been as many in attendance since the court convened as there were while the court was in session at the hotel.It is not known definitely who will be summoned as the first witness by the defense to-day. WaJ. R. A. Blandford was called just before the adjournment of the court on Saturday, though he was not sworn at that time. It may be that Capt. Townsend will be called this morning. Capt. Townsend has come here from Grand Rapids, Mich., on a subpoena In the interest of the defense, and is anxious to get back to his post as soon as possible. For that reason he may be put on the stand at once.lt;’apt. Townsend will testify as to the construction of specifications, such as were issued by Capt. Carter. He has also seen some of the work done in ihis district, and has done considerable work Just like It. He made the trip with others to Hilton Head Island a week or so ago, and knows something about the brush said to have been washed there from Tyboe breakwater. Maj. Blandford. when called, will testify upon several engineering points.
