Bill Clinton on Monday vetoed a bill that would have exempted used farm equipment from state property taxesClinton said he decided to veto the bill because it would cost the state more than $1 million in revenue He said the state couldn’t afford it.The bill was introduced by Rep. Lloyd George of Danville. who said the state Revenue Department had found a quirk in the law” that allowed it to assess taxes onthe used farm machinery. Hendricks Jr. Eighty-five potential jurors in all appeared in court Monday.Four persons were excused from jury duty early Monday because they knew the victims or some of the 50 witnesses who have been subpoenaed to testify in the trial.Hendricks made all of the prospective jurors vow to avoid media reports of the trial, and he issued a court order to that effect.Security was tight in the courtroom All persons were scanned at the door with a hand held metal detector and handbags were checked for weapons.Hendricks said the precautions were taken because he had heard rumors that Reed’s life might be in danger. Hendricks said testimony in the trial could involve persons involved in drug trafficking.Police have said that the shooting was a “drug-related homicide ”Reed was arrested in California in early 1978 and voluntarily returned to Arkansas to face the charges.Phillip G. Herdon, 28. of Little Rock also is charged with two counts of capital murder in connection with the slayings. He is scheduled to stand trial in July.
