Daisy Carroll Arrested.Mention was made yesterday that i Detective Norris had gone to Tennessee to arrest Daisy Carroll for com -plicity in Frank Jones defalcation , from the Champion Reaper Company. Daisy was born in this county, not far from Newbern, and bo- 1 came notorious here by her fast ways j and bad conduct. Her parents were poor and she received but a limited education. She visited Columbus last summer, and made a great dis- , play of fine clothing and jewelry. TheCourier Journal has the follow ing , to say of her arrest:Chattanooga, March 18.—Miss Jessie Carroll, a prominent and wealthy young lady, was arrested on her farm in Rhea county, this evening, for complicity in the embezzlement of Frank Jones, chief bookkeeper of the Champion Machine Works, Springfield, O. The arrest was made by Pinkerton detectives, and develops -«n extraordinary sensation in connection with this matter. Miss Carroll came to Rhea county, Tenn., from Springfield, two years ago- She paid $5,000 cash for an elegant residence, purchased valuable properties, and at once became a leader in society. She passed as a wealthy heiress, and was courted and greatly admired. As soon as she heard of Jones* arrest at Springfield, she left the county and started to Florida, but was decoyed back by telegrams from the detectives and at once arrested. The chief books of the Champion Company were found buried in her ice house at Spring City and other strong evidence secured that she is a party to his defalcation*! which may reach $10,000. Only at small amount of money was found on ! her person, but it is known that she left here with an immense sum, and has concealed it somewhere. She will betaken to Ohio. Ohio.
