Burnett heard the talc again after Holberg arrived at the treatment facility, but Burnett said she still remained doubtful.Like Burnett, Corena Norrell said she didn’t believe Holberg’s story at first. But both testified they became believers when they later learned of the Nov. 13, 1996, murder of the 80-ycar-old Towery.“1 knew immediately it was true because of the exact same circumstances,” Burnett said.Burnett immediately reported the conversation she had with Holberg,she testified. Norrell, a Dalhart waitress, said she did the same.Randall County Criminal District Attorney James Barren said he didn’t learn of the conversations until Friday. Consequently, he only notified Holbcrg’s attorneys that day, he said.Candace Norris, one of Holbcrg’s lawyers, asked 251st state District Judge Patrick Pirtle to delay courtproceedings while the defense team investigates the allegations.Williams died a few days after Holbcrg’s alleged assault, lawyers told Pirtle. The body was cremated, lawyers said.Pirtle denied the request. Testimony will continue this morning.Katina Dickson testified Holbergonce offered her money to quiet Vicki Kirkpatrick from repeating a jail-house confession made by Holberg. But Dickson, a former cellmate and friend, said ahe never carried out the contract.“I might get violent, but it’s not in me to take somebody’s life,” said Dickson, currently serving a felony sentence for theft by check.Kirkpatrick had testified Holberg said that she enjoyed killing Towery. Holberg said the blood looked pretty, like a fountain, Kirkpatrick said, recounting their alleged jail-house conversation.Kirkpatrick has been charged with burglary of a habitation in Farren’s jurisdiction, court records show. The charges arc still pending, Kirkpatrick testified.Dickson also testified Holberg paid several Randall County Jail inmates to beat a prisoner who called her a murderess. They broke the man's jaw, Dickson said.During the guilt / innocencephase, Holberg testified she had vis-to 10 times. She said they struggled only after lie hit her twice in the backof the head.When asked Monday if her father, Towery, entertained prostitutes, Linda Hagan delivered an emphatic:“No! Never.”Hagan said her father tired easily and had trouble walking the distance of the airport. She pointed to a photo of him sitting in a wheelchair duringthe Oregon state fair.
