Sykes styled himself the “Potentate of Heaven” and waftIhead of a fanatical body called the “House of David, Just prior to his imprisonment he startled his followers’ with the prophesy that tne end of the world would come i on March 4 but later changed it to March 5. Both pro-'pheeies failed of fulfilment, but it must be said fpr himthat his later prophesy was one day nearer correct than I his first. 1The road to fame is a devious one and the stunts that mav take to.ft. man. Sykes would probably never have been heard of outside his own little cult had he not gained, firat page position by breaking in jail. Eugene V,' Debs, 1L* who received more votes in jail than he would have received out of it, plays the “martyr” occasionally to keepfrom being forgotten.
