THOMPSON FOUND GUILTY.Darling ton* s Would Be Wife Murderer Convicted at Crawfordsville.William Thompson, tried at Craw-fordsville last week for shooting his wife, was found guilty, Thursday evening, and will serve an indeterminate sentence, not to exceed fourteen years. Young Thompson comes from one of the most influential families in the county of Montgomery. Every effort to make a useful citizen of him has failed. He has squandered a fortune in dissipation. Last winter his wife left him and went to the home of a friend in Crawfordsville to escape his persecutions. He sought her out, and when she refused to go-with him, shot her through the body. The ball passed through one of her lungs, and she is not expected to live.The defense, conducted by Johnston Johnston, of Crawfordsville, and S. M. Ralston, of Lebanon, was on the plea of insanity. Among the experts who testified, was Dr. J. L. Hendricks of this city. The Argus-News says 1 that “for a country doctor he acquitted t himself with much credit. Mr. Ander-t sop found him thoroughly capable ofi giving expert testimony and failed to J rattle him in the least.” The same t paper, in speaking of the argument in the case, says: “The man who attracted 1 the most attention under the circum i stances, was Hon. Samuel M. Ralston, of Lebanon. Mr. Ralston was the I Democratic candidate for secretary of I state in is90 and will be given the L place again no doubt this fail. He is a fine looking gentleman, a splendid lawyer and as clever and genial a man as you would care to meet.”The prosecution was conducted by Prosecutor Kennedy, assisted by A. B. Anderson, another Boone county boy who has arisen to distinction in his profession.
