Jack Foster, a former Texas cowboy, who was a pioneer of Dakota territory, and who gained fame as a frontiersman and frontier peace officer.The originator of the movement to erect the monument is Maj. Charles P. Jordan, of Rosebud Indian agency, a cousin of Gen. George A. Custer, and himself a frontiersman of considerable renown.(apt. Foster died about two years ago from heart failure caused by over-exertion in fighting a prairie fire, which threatened to sweep a large territory on the Rosebud reservation.
