In November 1907 the unfortunate affair, in which Peter Grethen ahot and killed his brother Casper, took place at the Grethen home in Ellington township. . As the story whs * related at the time, Casper Grethen, whom it was alleged was inaane had threatened the lives of h'fa sister, Carrie and brother Jake at various times and on this day was unusually violent and started op stairs where his sister was. He usually carried a revolver and it was supposed .that he had one at that time, It was found later that he did not have a revolver on his person but had access to two guns on Ips way tipstairs.. Fearing that, he would execute his threat and kill hia sister, and in order to prevent this catastrophe Peter fired at him hoping to frighten him or perhaps disable his arm ao that he might be overpowered. The Hrst grand jury .failed .to indict the young man.
