It I was through this door that the mur- I derer gained access to the home, say I the officers, and it was through this I that he took his departure. This doors I leads into the kitchen. From the i kitchen a door opens into the room j „ occupied by Louis Casa way and also to the room occupied by his wife. The theory of the officers is that• Louie Casa way was the first victim of the IntnMier. Having killed him, the officersfbelieve that the murdererI crept into the room occupied by Mrs. Caeaway aid there killed her. The baby and fhe other child with herI are suppowLd to have been the nextvictims. Lcjhlsa. the 8-year-old child, is thought lt;to have been the last to I meet death.* Having slain the motherI and the two ohildren, the murderer is thought to have returned to the room wherein Louis Casaway was killed.Believe Child Awakened. 1The position of the body of thischild is what leads them to believe that she was the last of the victims. The body was found with her head pointing to the foot of the bed. No blood stain is found upon the pillow where it had gone to sleep earlier in | the night. The officers believe that this child was awakened during the ! 1 progress of the several killings and j ^ j had started to get out of bed or was !I in an upright position when struck ■II down with the axe. The skull of this I] child was the only one that was not i laid open. It was within two or three j feet from where this child lay thatI the axe was found on the floor. That the person who committed the crime was deliberate in *his fearful work of slaughter is shown by theI condition of things found upon the arrival of the officers. The faces of Louis Casaway and his wife were found covered with a cloth. In the j window near which Louis Casaway lay i a pillow had been placed. A pillow also was found in the window near the head of the woman and a blanket had been spread across the north window 0 of this room. Josie Casa way wfas killed while lying on the bed nearest • f the w^ail of the north room, as shown j* by the blood at that spot. The body, | however, had been picked up and afterwards thrown near the foot of the j bed, the head being bent far back as was the larger portion of the body. | Other conditions found in the room in- ; I dicated that the murderer w'as in no | I hurry to leave. In each killing the 1 I blunt end of the axe had been used. m I Officers Are Baffled. tI For a time the officers were completely baffled. There was absolutely | nothing found in the house that might tend to give a clue. The axe used in the commission of the crime may yet. _ furnish a clue, as no one present at the place today could definitely tell whether it w*as owned by Louis Casa-W'ay. It Is believed, however, that the axe did belong to him. That robbery I iy was not the motive, the officers say, I- is borne out by the fact that nothingE— tin the house w'as molested. Not a; drawer in a bureau or wardrobe w'aa! * found disturbed. The trousers of j Louis Casa w'ay were still hanging on the foot of the bed and several dollars j were in the pockets. His watch was j still in the vest. The most plausible 3* iformation gained by the officers is that tending to the belief that revenge prompted the wholesale slaughter.■ | The fact that Mrs. Drake, a negro— woman, w'ent to the home of Louis Casaway last night and got her child doubtless saved the little one’s life.m This child had been playing with the Casaw'ay children during the latter part of the afternoon and sometimes remained over night at the house. There is no question in the minds of \» the police that had the child been left there it w^ould have met the same fate as the others.Casaway From New Orleans, Louis Casa way came to San Antonio from New' Orleans about thirty-five jyean ago and was widely known inthe city, both among the w'hltes and negroes. His wife, according to the detectives, was a white woman and came here some ten years ago from Hallettsville. She was married to I in Louis Casaway In Mexico and returned j and lived continuously In this city, j u~ For about six or seven years Casaway j has been employed as Janitor at the ml Grant negro school here.Justice of the Peace Ben Fisk will not complete his inquest for several days.
