asceSBl]m,:th3lS111Detective Society Horse Dwuevs.Dr. Otis Barnett, who has been taking descriptions of animals protected by the Madison County Horse Thiel Detective Society, concluded his labors last week, after being out every day lor 42 days, and visiting 252 members. He took descriptions of 1,000 head, 870 borses and 330 mules. He found the stock, generally speaking, first-class, and thinks the society protects as much valuable horse flesh as any in the state.Among members who have a large number ol animals are: Win, Bobm, who has 19; J, H, Steinmetz, 12; H. A. Eaton, 10; Anson Barnett, 13} William Stahlhut, 9; M, Herrin, 10} N. G. Flagg, 11} W. P. Renfro, 11} Dr, Jos. Pogue, 10j T. W. McCune, 10; Nic Werner, 10} Wm, Bosomworth, 8; Wm. Bmolla, 10; John Meek, 10; Rudolph Frickenstein, 9; Lanterman Bros., 12; A. J. Poag, 8, Herman Bender, 85 W. W, Head, 10; Conrad Gusewelle, 10; Wm. Post, 8.The best and soundest all-aronnd horses are owned by Nic Werner, Wm. Galt, Wm. Post, Haas Meier and August Wltkening, The best mules are owned by farmers in the American Bottom. The best teams of Shire horses are owned by Henry Brockmeier and T. W. McCune. The handsomeBt match teams of Percheron horses are owned by Wm. Stahlhut, August Wilkenlng and A. H. Miier. Chas. Schmidt owns the best team of mules protected by the society. W, W. Head has a greater number ol trotting bred horses than any other member. The draft stallions ol August Wlikening and T. J. Judy show a greater number ol sound all-round draft Shire and Percheron horses than any others. W. W. Barnsback’s roadster, Don Juan has sired more colts than any other roadster Btallion taken by the society, Bn-polph Frickenstein and John Stolze each own a mule 18 hands high. The Doctor has done It's work faithfully and has picked up much valuable information.
