Deputy Collector of Customs Howe D. Higgins of Southwest Harbor Makes Big Haul from Geo. McKay’s Garage on Main Street The biggest liquor seizure in Bar Harbor for years if not the biggest single seizure ever made were was made this noon by Deputy Collector of Customs Howe D. Higgins of Southwest Harbor assisted by prohibition offers Hooper and Norton. The seizure was made at the garage owned by George C. McKay in the rear of his house on Main Street. Included in the lot were fifty-two cases of assorted liquors including such well- known brands as’ Old Parr’ on one keg of rum The lot was taken to the basement of the Bar Harbor post office Cmuiding end put under Rex and Rey there. Another search was made today but no liquors were found. Deputy Collector Higgins explained that this was a customs seizure and not a prohibition seizure and that his de partment was interested in the liquor from the viewpoint of it, having been smuggled into the country rather than because it might have been intended for sale. Mr. Higgins stated that this li quor had been smuggled in from the Danish West Indies via Barbadoes and we further stated his belief that it had been intended to transport it to Bangor and other points as soon as the roads were free from snow. Mr. Higgins said thot he had been working on this vase for weeks. There were two truck loads in the seizure. Mr. Higgins was open ‘2 Bar Harbor for several days and said that he might be here several more ‘working along the same lines.
