Phono Main 42The Birds Fly.On tho Sunday morning following tho 'two fugitives appear to have eluded the vigilance of the officers set to watch them and made their escape. The suddenness of their flight leads the officers to believe that McKinney was warned by friends by letter, and would have had ttnie to have reached him at that date after the publication according to calculations a letter of the news regarding tho whereabouts of tho officers who were after him. Tho necessary papers arrived by mall from the City of Mexico on the following Tuesday, March 10th, eleveu day* after they had been first requested.The whereabouts of tho fugitives could not be ascertained and not until the following Saturday was any.news of them received, when Sheriff Collins was Informed tluu McKinney, Jeffordsand a negro were seen some fortymiles from Proitns on tho evening of the Sunday previous and that they hud requested food at a small settlement there, showing that they had traveled last on the first day of their flight. Letters and descriptions were sent to many provinces but without avail. Sheriff Collins left Mexico last Monday evening.Ho states that there are evidences that both McKinney aud Jeffords spent sumo time at Kandsburg and that the latter followed the former to Mexico. McKinney was In Nogalees the first part; of November last, where he remaluod some time and was Introduced to tho sheriff ami officials there under another name.Sheriff Collins lias not abandoned hope of securing tho prisoners, but states that he does not care to discuss hts future plans in regard to tho matter/'The Native Sons of the Golden West are now making special preparations for the reception of tho Grand Palor which meets hoie from April 26th to May 1st. Both the Opera House and Armory Hall have been engaged, the first as a lodge meeting room, the aocond for the banquet and baP.The Grand Parlor will be attended by between 350 and 400 delegates, many of whom will bring their families with them, thus adding about three ■hundreds more to the crowds to throngthe city,The personnel of the Grand Parlor consists of many of the leading citizens of the State, among, them being Governor Pardee, a number of judges of the Supreme and Superior Court* and many men prominefttt in the professional business and political life of tho State.
