Woman Wins Out-Of-CourtSettlementMrs. Cynthia Morrissey, in an out-of-court settlement, has been awarded $135,000 in “contract and punishment damages” as the result of a suit filed following a fire that consumed her home at 722 Leiper Street and resulted in the death of her husband, Michael Morrissey, and her son, Matthew Morrissey.According to her attorney, Jim McCadden of Towson, Mrs. Morrissey filed suit in U.S. District Court of Maryland to recover damages against her insurer, Penn Mutual Fire Insurance Company and General Adjustment Bureau, Inc., and INS Investigations Bureau, Inc., arising out of their alleged actions to have her “prosecuted for arson-murder by providing false*information to the state’s attorney’s office in an effort to bar her claim for insurance proceeds under her fire insurance policy,” McFadden said.Mrs. Morrissey was cleared of charges brought against her in March 1981. She filed suit in March 1983.
