Trial Ordered In Simi SlayingRichard W Durkee. 22, of Sjmi Valley, must stand trial in Superior Court for the kid napmg. robbery and murder of Antoinette Taian. 38. of Simi Valley, a Judge ruled Tuesday following a two-day closed hearing Ventura Municipal Court Judge Charles McGrath, after listening to two days of evidence in a closed courtroom, found there was sufficient evi dence for Durkee to stand trial in Superior Court Defense attorney William N Byhower requested the hearing be closed and a record of all proceedings be sealed and kept secret from the public The latter request is believed to be unprecedented in Ventura County court history.Assistant Dist Atty Michael Bradbury, who handled the preliminary hearing beforeMcGrath, said Durkee was held to answer in Superior Court on the kidnaping, robbery and murder counts, plus a charge of extortion with a threat to injure Mrs TaianMcGrath also found the evi dence supported two special circumstances, or death penalty allegations that Mrs. Taian was robbed and the killing was a first degree murder, and that Mrs Taian was kidnaped for ransom and the killing was a first-degree murderDurkee also faces a possible death penalty under another theory, that Mrs Tolan died during the commission of her kidnapingMcGrath ordered Durkee to appear in Superior Court on March 30 The defendant remains in custody without bail
