tWounds FatalTo Young MandAt Green BaydnGreen Bay, Wis. — (£)— Walter Nier, 28, died in a hospital here today from the effects of three bullet wounds inflicted by two gunmen • who came to his home Monday night a posing as prohibition agents. Authorities regarded the shooting as the outcome of a hi-jacking feud.The two men came to bis home and stated that they were prohibition men who wanted him to show them that still near Anston.” When he demanded that they show their badges they opened fire, wounding Nier, and narrowly missing his two children. Nier returned the fire and the men fled.Nier said he believed he had wounded one or both. He told officers he believed that they_ were , alky” makers who blamed him for | the tipoff that resulted in the raid ' on an alcohol plant a few days before, He claimed not to know thenIr.'men.Despite an emergency operation and a blood transfusion, peritonitis developed, and Nier sank rapidly. For 20 hours before his death he bad been unconscious. He is survived by bi3 widow and two small sons; also his parents and two brothers.
