However, all agreed upon this by 1:30 o’clock Saturday morning and the jurors retired for the night. The verdict was rendered in court at 9 o’clock Saturday morning. When it was announced Bailey maintained the composure that characterized him throughout the trial.* Later in the day, however, he broke down for a time in his cell at the jail.Bailey is 36 years of age. His victim. Mrs. Erma Skinner, was 34. Bailey had been married previous to marrying Mrs. Skinner. Skinner of Centralia, and by whom she had five children, was divorced from Mr. Skinner. Later Mrs. Skinner and Bailey married. It afterwards developed that the marriage was Illegal because the six months required by law following her divorce had not elapsed. She had her marriage to Bailey annulled in court. However, she permitted him to live at her home and he claimed that they had discussed being remarried; that he had told her that If she would quit the booze business he would marrv her.The discovery of the liquor in his car following his return from Rochester the night of the tragedy would indicate that he was engaged In the business as much as she. The outcome of the whole affair may be used tp point a moral that many other young men and women in Lewis county should take home to themselves. Besides the three Centralia young men who unfortunately for themselves happened to be unexpected witnesses to the gruesome tragedy it was brought out In the evidencethat another young man and a young woman visited Mrs. Skinner’s place after liquor while they were there hut left shortly before It happened.
