Shepard DischargedHarry (Smucks) Shepard, who was brought to the county jail last Saturday, was taken to Malvern Tuesday to | answer the charge of taking chickens ; from the John Parker hen house. Shep- j ard was arraigned before Justice II. L.: Hammond and was defended by Attorney N. S. Genung and prosecuted j by the county attorney. Hammond’s , court room was packed to suffocation with visitors until the court ordered ; all visitors barred. After hearing the testimony, Justice Hammond considered the evidence insufficient to hold Shepard to the grand , jury, and he was therefore discharged. The earth seems to have opened up j and swallowed Wm. Logan, the other | party in the deal with Shepard. His absence from his native haunts is no-, ticeable, and also not mourned.
