He was accompanied by an adopted daughter who Is about eight years old, The mother of of the child is Mrs. Frank Lewis of South Sycamore street. She gave the Child to Mr. and Mrs Groening when it was about six months old. A year or so later the child was adopted by them Mrs. Lewis petitioned the judge of probate to have a guardian appointed for the child and several hearings has been beard in that court within the pastitew weeks. It was set up that Mr. Groening was not a proper person to care for the child. Another hearing was setf for Tuesday. On Saturday, It is said, Mr. Groening oame to town and drew between four and five hundred dollars out of one of the banks. He then took hia adopted daughter and went to Marengo. No one has seen him since. It is reported by some that he went to Indiana while others say that he has gone to New York, but at any rate he cannot be located in the county. Just what the outcome of the case pending in the probate court will be remains to be seen.
