Carolyn Neely death caused by either blow to head or liverCarolyn Sue Neely, 16, died of blows to the skull and liver, either of which would be sufficient to cause death, according to a Joplin pathologist’s report released Thursday.The girl, daughter of Mrs. Mary Neely, Joplin, and James Neely, Carthage, had been dead about three months when her nude and partially decomposed body was found stuffed in an abandoned latrine.A party of hunters discovered the remains March 2 at the old Boy Scout camp north of 1-44 and near M-43. The site is southwest of Joplin in Newton County. She was reported missing to police Dec. 10 by her mother.Mrs. Neely said she took her daughter to Joplin Memorial High School for her sophomore classes Dec. 9. The girl did notreturn home from school that day and the mother never saw her alive again.Newton County Coroner Henry Freund said no date has yet been set for a coroner’s inquest into the slaying. He is awaiting analysis of blood, hair and tissue samples by the FBI, Freund said.
