Mrs. Lucy Hicks, well known colored cook of Oxnard, pleadedguilty to charges of possession ofliquor in the local police court late yesterday afternoon, it was an-nounced today by Chief of Police J. B. Kerrick.Mrs. Hicks, attired in an orchid dress, fur coat, and with a small hat set jauntily on her head, giggled at various occasions during the legal proceedings and was accused of trying to “vamp the court. The cook denied Uie vamping charges,Unfortunately” Judge Frank B Pettis told the defendent, the law limits me to a fine of $500. However, 1 am going to be lenient, and I knock off $150 of it. It is the judgment of this court that you pay a line of $350 or spend one dap inthe county jail for each dollar of the fine not paid.”Up to press time today, Mrs. Hicks had failed to pay the fine.
