Alderman Osborne, before whom they appeared, placed the youthful defendants under bail for a hearing to be held later.It is asserted by young Ragland thaton Saturday last the two boys overpowered him in a building on Water street, affixed a rope about his neck and strung him op, the rope cutting the skin andcanning the lad's neck to bleed The rope and a bloodstained collar were offered in eridence to show that the at- ! tempted hanging was no joking matter. 1 Jast whv the would be lynchers under- j took to hang the colored boy is un- .known.
