— —_00“ The Schaekler Case.—The trial of Fred. Schaefler for the murder of George Schneider, was resumed on Monday and j concluded yesterday. After the close of the testimony on Monday, Mr. Mackey ad- j dressed the jury on behalf of the State, and was followed by Mr. Root, on the part of the defendent. Mr. Goodwin on the same side spoke yesterday forenoon and was followed bv Mr. Beecher for the State, who closed his argument a little before 4 o’clock, when the case was immediately given to the jury in an impartial and able charge from Judge Taylor.The case has been of much local interest, and has been conducted with such care, la-bor arid ability, both for the prosecution and the defense, as are seldom exhibited. The jury was a most excellent one in every respect, one calculated tlt; carefully weigh, i calmly consider and deliberately decide upon their verdict.The jury after a very brief absence re turned into court a verdict of guilty of manslaughter. Exceptions are taken to the Judge’s charge, on the part of the deten-dent and notice was given of motion for a new trial.
