Ind . have been ;indicted by a federal grand jury charg- j ed with using the United States mails;in a scheme to defraud.The indictments were returned onMarch 3rd and were suppressed b F ederal Judge Carpenter under warrants.could he served by the United Statesmarshal.The indictments name the officials ofthe National Organization Company, itis declared, the principals beiog E. C.Talmadge. George DeWitt Talmadge, Nellie Burnside Talmadge and J • C.Brokelbank. •It was atated today at the Federalbuilding in Chicago, that the officialsof the National Organization Company knew of the indictments ftnd had sentword they would appear at the federal building and give bond.E C. Talmadge and a number of the associates were indicted In 13 4 on a similar charge but the case never cameto trial.The National Organization Company had offices at 1«3 W. Washington street and at one time maintained a branch office in Hammond. The company wasinvestigated by the United States Tovtat Inspectors Walter Johnson and lt;H. Clarahan who told the federal grand jury that it was not a legitimate business Arm but a scheme to defraud. Postal inspectors raided the offices of thecompany and presented correspondenceand records to the grand jury that the National Organization concern accepted fees on contracts they were neveri1i*able to carry out.According to the postal inspectorsthe company represented itself as abrokerage for stock companies. The victims it sought were young companies anxious io get their shock on the ‘market and dlsrn**d of and the National Organization Company wouldcontract to sell the stock, exacting substantial fees in advance.’There i* no evidence that the National Organization Company ever sold one share of anybody * stock.” said an inspector. “But They fleeced scores of companies in all parts of the country.”The Talmadges and Brokelbank are well known in T^ake county. Theyspend a portion of the year at the Cumberland Country Club” on the Kankakee river.
