FLOGGINGS NEAR ATLANTA TO BE PROBED ATLANTA.—The flag-death of Ike Gaston, Fast Point barber, last Fri day, has resulted this week in a joint investigation by federal and Atlanta law enforcement agencies. Judge Marvin Underwood has charged the March term of the the federal grand jury there that such floggings are a violation of civil rights, and constitute a federal offence. Another East Point barber, Lewis F. (Red) Johnson, in whose shop Gaston once worked, told officials that such flogging activities have been going on over a period of twelve years, and that he believed the flogging groups were composed of policemen and K. K. K. members. The Fulton County Grand Jury Tuesday indicted four men in connec tion with previous floggings. Both of the whippingss of which they were accused occurred in 139.
