i.NUMBER 48.CHEROKEE OUTLAWS KILL THREE DEPUTY MARSHALSEwhile Depnty Uoited States Mar-shal I. Im Gilstrap, Otis Tittle and Dick Carey, of Vinita, and Than Wofford, Pleas Mann and Andy Dick of Tahlequah, I. T., were following their bloodhounds from the marshal’s office in this place, trying to find the Wick-liffe gang of fall blood Cherokee Indian outlaws on Little Saline Creek, twenty-five miles south east of this place, they were sud-denly fired upon from ambush by the Wickliffe boys, and as soonas the smoke cleared away Deputy Gihtrap, Tittle and Carey were found dead on the ground and Deputies Than Wofford, Andy Dick and Pleas Mann rode rapidly away among a hail of bullets from the outlaws, who were hidden behind stones. The horses were killed at the same time the officers were.The Wickliffe boys are desperate fullblood Cherokee Indians and were at one time peaceable and quiet citizens. Tbey attended the Cherokee schools and are well educated. Their father was at one time one of the Supreme Judges of the Cherokee Nation, and they have always been prominent in Cherokee politics.About two years ago the three Wickliffe boys were wanted by the officers on a charge of bring*swear in 100 additional deputies and to offer $1,000 reward for each of the outlaws, dead or alive.gty’siiyadih-hers-ry»y*mtinateofr in.SCarlton Suoceatftil.The News is in receipt of intel-egence from the University of Oklahoma, that in the Oklahoma preliminary contest Saturday determining who should represent Oklahoma in the Inter-Collegiate North debate, that the News brother, Carlton Weaver, was anccessfnl. The subject of the debate was “Resolved that there should be federal rather than state control of insurance companies.” Oklahoma has the negative and democratic side of this important and live question. The final debate will occur next month.Prominent Indiana Visitors.A party of prominent gentlemen from theHoosier state arrived in the city Saturday morning to have a look at the prospects of this community. They are: W. P. McDougal, Judge M. ». Hastings and Dr. F. M. Harned of Washington, Ind., and H- R. Snyder, rice president of First National Bank of Petersburg, Ind. Mr. McDougal is well known in Ada and has consider able property interests here. Deputy United States Marshal J.
