The evidence of Mfl-Travers and Whelan's son, entirely settled all talk about a hatchet being on Whelan’s car. There could not possibly have been one I here. The affair occurred close upon the ele©* tions and party disputes must have had something to do with the rows, both men being on opposite sides* The result of the case was that Whelan left the court without any stain on his character, guilty must have been very drunk when he said that he was hit with the pole of a uew American axe, whereas the hurt, really must have been caused by catching in the wheel. .Mr. F. J* Morris defended Whelan and Mr. M. P. (Jibbs fought for guilty.
