A Riskey Racket.A number of boys of this city procured some sour beer on Saturday night, and imbibing it soon became, as they might call it, “gloriously drunk.” They went on the warpath, and one of their attacks was to be on A1 Conner’s illuminated sign. They had prepared their ammunition (rocks) and were in file before the sign ready to dischargejtheir fusilade, but Conner was on the watch and dispersed jfhem. A switch signal was destroyed, hammered to pieces. At last they brought up before the post office door and letting fly a huge stone broke through one of the large panes of glass. At this point, a spectator to their deviltries, but powerless to stop them, thinking they meant burglary, fired his revolver and frightened them away. One of them, Casper Hemi berger, ran into Passmore’s Restaurant and there being questioned gave the names of the others,-—Joe McMahan, one of the Kirchner boys, and Harry Long. As soon as possible the boys were arrested and confined in jail.On Monday evening the three smaller boys were released by a call from the Grand Jury, leaving McMahon alone in jail. Some time during the night some one pried the bars open and Joe escaped. In making the arrest the officers simply did their duty and what every honest citizen requires of them, yet we would not be surprised to see in the Sun this week flaming headlines and a long tirade against the officers of the city. It is the Sun's province to support rowdyism and denounce any interference with the “rights” of some citizens to destroy the property of others.
